I'm Monica Bernabe Perez, a Spanish teacher from Madrid and the founder of BlanBla, an online Spanish school for English speakers. I teach real Spanish through Spanglish stories, small-group conversation classes (La Tribu) and my books, so people who understand Spanish finally start speaking it.

Madrileña by birth, Australian guiri by choice
I was born in Madrid. Then I moved to Perth, Australia, where I taught Spanish at the University of Western Australia (UWA) and ran in-person Spanish classes. For years I was the guiri: the foreigner who didn't get the jokes, said the wrong word and froze in the middle of a sentence.
That's exactly why I teach the way I do. I know what it feels like to understand a language and still not be able to speak it. Now I'm back in Madrid, teaching English speakers all over the world the Spanish people really use: fast, funny, full of slang and stories.
